Shatterline: A New Era of Blockchain Gaming
Discover how Shatterline is redefining FPS gaming with blockchain technology and thrilling new features.
Shatterline isn’t just another FPS game—it’s a bold fusion of rogue-like gameplay and blockchain innovation. Earlier this year, Faraway announced that they would be stepping in to republish Shatterline, a rogue-like arena FPS, on Epic Games with the integration of HV-MTL and their own layer 1 on Avalanche, known as F-chain).. After months of playtesting and refining core game modes including co-op expedition, pvp, and campaign, the game officially relaunched on Thursday December 5th, 2024.
With this launch, Faraway introduced multiple campaigns for gamers including their monthly leaderboard tournaments and the Nexus creator program, further establishing Shatterline as a standout in blockchain-powered gaming. Let’s dive into what makes Shatterline unique and how its seamless integration of Web3 elements elevates the gaming experience.
Core Game Modes
Shatterline offers a unique list of game modes to choose from, attracting multiple groups of players. The current version offers five different game modes:
Episodes: A timed event co-op based game mode with up to three players. In episodes, players explore self-contained stories that take place in the Shatterline universe. There are currently 4 episodes in a 24 hour rotation: The Escape, Inside-out, Red Lake, Liberty.
Campaign: A solo player journey in which the player helps save the Earth from being taken over from the Crystalline - I giant interstellar super organism that devours planets. The current campaign has 17 unique missions that are 30-60 minutes long, providing plenty of gameplay. Expedition: A Co-op PVE game mode in which a squad of three players are dropped into impact zones to complete randomly generated objectives. Expeditions typically take anywhere from 15-75 minutes after players complete a finale event. Throughout their journey, players can collect resources, gain XP, and obtain blueprints.
Team Deathmatch: One of the crowd favorite game modes in Shatterline, which recently got re-added in their latest patch. It’s a 6v6 team gamemode in which the first team to 80 kills wins the game. There are currently 7 maps available to play and this is currently the only unranked PVP game mode.
Versus: The official ranked pvp mode in Shatterline and offers three different 5v5 games: Conquest, Escort and Plant the Bomb. In this, players can progress between 5 different ranks, bronze, silver, gold, emerald, and diamond to obtain different rewards at each tier.
Monthly Leaderboard Tournaments
Alongside refurbishing previous game modes, Faraway added a $40,000 leaderboard reward program for the top grinders of the game. This $40,000 is split equally between the expedition/episode game modes and ranked versus to cater to both play styles. For expedition and episode rewards, players need to start by connecting their Faraway account and then can play between the two game modes to collect gear. At the end of every week there will be set USD rewards for the top 50 players. To earn in the PVP ranked game mode, players need to reach top 250 in the leaderboards by the end of the month to receive a USD payout.
Nexus Creator Program
With the launch of Shatterline, Faraway also introduced its Faraway Foundry program with the goal of giving a voice to creators of all sizes to play, stream, and make content around the game. After acceptance into the program, creators can get paid for their efforts in showcasing Shatterline and also participate in bonus events such as private Twitch drops or creator-only reward programs. Web3 Integration
At the surface, the casual user wouldn’t notice the in-depth steps Faraway is taking to integrate Web3 into their games. Currently, one of their key web3 integrations is their HV MTL points portal. To use this, players need to earn engrams from placing in the Shatterline monthly leaderboards. Once a player has an engram in their inventory, they can go to the HV MTL website to claim keys. These keys can either be sold in their marketplace or used to unlock HV-MTL’s, which will have future use cases. Although the Faraway chain (F-chain) hasn’t officially launched, all payments from in-game earnings will be made through F-chain in the future. On top of that, most in-game items will also eventually transition on-chain at the launch of their L1.
The Future of Shatterline
Shatterline has already created a stir in the web3 space over their approach of refurbishing a previous web2 game and transitioning it into a web3 model. With features like F-chain integration, HV-MTL points, and asset tokenization, the game demonstrates how blockchain can enhance player engagement and rewards. As Avalanche’s infrastructure enables seamless scalability, low fees, and secure transactions, Shatterline has the potential to become a flagship FPS game in the blockchain gaming space.
A month into the official launch, the game has shown a lot of promise on the future of FPS games in the space and still has a lot of potential to grow. There are still multiple deliverables to look forward to including the integration of their own Layer1 on Avalanche and utilizing tokens and NFTs to further enhance asset ownership for players.
