Throughout 2026, Team1 Nigeria has been building that bridge by combining hands-on technical incubation, campus tours, real-world utility onboarding, and regional ecosystem grants.
Global Recognition: Spotlighting Top 20 Build Games Finalists
The true test of any regional ecosystem is what its builders produce when given the right resources. On the global stage, Nigeria made its mark as two local teams placed in the Top 20 of the inaugural Avalanche Build Games out of more than 2,000 applicants worldwide.
Poll It: Building a permissionless perception market on Avalanche where users stake on crowd sentiment, and creators monetize activity. Pushing through every competitive stage into the Top 20, Poll It earned a $15,000 grant from Avalanche. Their early traction highlights real onchain utility, generating over $18,000 in volume across 251 polls and distributing thousands of dollars to creators and participants.
SliqPay: Tackling broken payment rails in Africa through simplified QR payments, phone/email transfers, bill splits, and merchant checkouts on Avalanche. SliqPay reached the Top 20 and secured a $10,000 grant from Avalanche as they prepare for mainnet deployment.
These teams represent what Build Games is all about: solving real problems, building consistently, and shipping actual products that bring value onchain.
Unlocking Regional Talent: The Grassroots Tour
To ensure these opportunities reached beyond major commercial hubs, Team1 Nigeria took the ecosystem directly to developer centers across the country.
In Uyo, over 60 builders gathered for an intensive incubation day focused on smart contract deployment and building in public. Experienced founders provided live feedback on product architectures, resulting in six live project applications submitted to Build Games on the spot.
In Awka, local developers explored Avalanche’s L1 architecture and downloaded Core Wallet to execute their first live onchain transactions. Similar momentum carried into Lagos and Ibadan, where a dedicated Developer Workshop guided participants through smart contract deployment and the application process for Team1 Mini Grants.
Showing Up Consistently: The Monthly Ecosystem Call
Regular community engagement helps keep the ecosystem growing. Beyond physical meetups and hackathons, the Team1 Nigeria Ecosystem Call gives builders, creators, contributors, and community members a space to connect, learn, and share ideas.

Fostering Inclusive Community Culture
Beyond code and terminal windows, ecosystem growth relies heavily on culture, accessibility, and trust. Team1 Nigeria actively sponsors and onboards female developers through partnerships with groups like Women in DeFi, creating clear entry points into Web3 development.
At the same time, casual, culturally aligned gatherings, such as the UEFA Champions League Final hangout at the University of Ilorin and World Cup watch parties in Lagos, create relaxed spaces for students, creators, and engineers to connect naturally. These shared experiences build the real-world relationships that often form the groundwork for future project co-founders.
