Off The Grid: Ape-ril Fools and New Updates Bring Chaos to the Battle Royale

Off The Grid, the blockchain-based battle royale developed by Gunzilla Games, continues to dominate the Web3 gaming scene with its high-octane action and innovative updates. Powered by the Avalanche-supported GUNZ blockchain, the game has been rolling out exciting content throughout April, captivating players with new skins, events, and partnerships.

Ape-ril Fools: A Bored Ape Takeover

On April 2, 2025, Off The Grid dropped the Ape-ril Fools Content Pack in collaboration with Bored Ape Yacht Club, bringing a chaotic twist to the game. Available exclusively through the OTG Pro tier, this pack introduces two playable Bored Ape character skins, letting players go “full ape sh*t” as they battle for clout, coin, and chaos. The skins blend the iconic BAYC aesthetic perfectly with the game’s futuristic vibe.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone for Off The Grid, building another bridge between the NFT and gaming worlds. The Ape-ril Fools pack also ties into the broader integration of BAYC content, following the earlier release of the limited-time Ape-fool Mask on April 1, which players could unlock by participating in a single match that day. Although the mask is no longer available, its rarity has made it a coveted cosmetic among the game’s offerings.

Community Challenges and Leaderboards

On April 3, 2025, Off The Grid introduced a new set of Community Challenges to spice up the gameplay experience. These challenges encouraged players to find 10 Bored Ape posters across Teardrop Island and take videos or screenshots. They then had to post it on Discord for a chance to win a rare gold ape mask. They also hosted daily raffles with unique challenges, such as dancing around the posters for a chance to win the mask with teammates. There are only 199 of these masks in existence, making it one of the rarest items in the game.

Web3 Integration: GUNZ Blockchain Updates

The GUNZ blockchain, which powers Off The Grid’s Web3 features, has been a focal point of recent updates, with several announcements made since the $GUN token launch on March 31st. $GUN is now tradeable on multiple tier 1 exchanges and Avalanche native exchanges like LFJ, Dexalot, and Core. And Between April 2nd and April 14, GUNZ rolled out a series of updates to enhance the blockchain’s functionality.

Mainnet Migration: On April 2nd Gunzilla announced that they began migration to $GUN mainnet from testnet. This includes moving over 14.7 million wallets (player accounts), over 100 million NFTs (the in-game items), and over 380k hexes.

The Future of Off The Grid

Looking ahead, Off The Grid shows no signs of slowing down. On April 10th, Off the Grid announced that they would be introducing cross-play at the end of April, meaning console players and PC players will be able to queue into games together. Furthermore, on April 14th, they announced their new battle pass, ChemTech. This introduction won’t just add more skins to the game but more lore. The team hasn’t spoken much about what will be changed, but they did mention stepping into the “irradiated boots of a Hopper Pilot and the shell-shocked aftermath of the Cleanup Crew.” There have also been teases of a Panda Cola skin, one of the most iconic “brands” in Off the Grid, from game leakers.

Additionally, the GUNZ blockchain team is working on further integrations, with plans to introduce more cross-chain functionalities and expand the marketplace’s offerings.
