FIFA Builds Its Own Blockchain on Avalanche to Power the Future of Football Fandom
FIFA is launching a custom Layer 1 blockchain on Avalanche, starting with FIFA+ Collect. Here’s how it works and why it’s a major move for digital collectibles and live event access.
If you’ve been following the evolution of digital collectibles in sports, you’ve probably seen the headlines. FIFA Collect has already given fans a new way to engage with the game, from owning digital moments to scoring actual match tickets. But with this announcement, FIFA is going beyond collectibles and into something much bigger: an entire blockchain purpose-built for global football fandom.
Here’s what’s changing, why it matters, and how it all works.
What Is the FIFA Blockchain?
The FIFA Blockchain is a dedicated Layer 1 blockchain built using Avalanche’s custom L1 architecture. That means it’s a standalone blockchain that runs parallel to the broader Avalanche network, but with FIFA-specific rules, permissions, and optimizations. It was developed by Modex, a longtime digital provider that has worked with FIFA on past Web3 initiatives.
This is not a “general purpose” chain. It’s built specifically for FIFA’s digital products, starting with FIFA+ Collect.
If you already use FIFA+ Collect, you’re part of this shift. And if you haven’t yet, now might be the best time to take a look.
How It Works for Fans
FIFA+ Collect is the first application running on the new chain. It allows fans to buy, trade, and showcase verified digital collectibles that capture key moments in football history. But what makes FIFA Collect different is how it ties these digital assets to real-world experiences.
Here are some of the things fans can already do:
Score real match tickets to the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ by purchasing specific collectibles or bundles
Earn the right to buy tickets (RTB) for FIFA World Cup 26™ matches, including premium access up to the semifinals
Join digital challenges that unlock limited-edition drops, surprise packs, or rewards
Collect officially licensed moments like the Panini Trophy Lift series, with footage and data tied to actual World Cup wins
This isn’t just a cosmetic add-on to fandom. It’s a functional system that gives fans utility, perks, and access based on what they own.
Why Avalanche?
FIFA selected Avalanche because it solves for scalability without compromising speed or security. Avalanche allows organizations to launch their own Layer 1 blockchains that can be fine-tuned for specific use cases.
For FIFA, this means:
Faster transaction times with low fees, even during major tournament windows
Compatibility with wallets like Core Wallet, Metamask, and other EVM-compatible wallets
A flexible framework for integrating ticketing, collectibles, and future experiences
The ability to grow without worrying about traffic from other apps or chains
By moving to an Avalanche-based L1, FIFA also consolidates its previous experiments on Algorand and Polygon into one streamlined, high-performance environment.

What Happens to Your Current Collectibles?
Most of your NFTs will migrate automatically if you’re already a FIFA+ Collect user. Any assets held in FIFA’s custodial wallet will be transferred to the new chain without you having to do anything at all.
If you previously exported assets to an external wallet like Pera, you must re-import them before May 20 to ensure they migrate successfully. After that, support for Algorand-based wallets will end, and the FIFA Blockchain will become the new home for all activity.
Your USDC balance can still be spent on the current platform, but after migration, you can only withdraw, not spend.
What Comes Next?
While FIFA+ Collect is leading the way, this is just the start. FIFA has signaled plans to expand its digital offerings beyond collectibles. The FIFA Blockchain is expected to support a growing ecosystem of fan experiences, including new types of interaction, loyalty-based rewards, and even digital extensions of live events.
Imagine syncing your digital collection with a live match, joining flash challenges during a tournament, or accessing behind-the-scenes content based on what you hold. With a dedicated chain, FIFA now has the infrastructure to make that kind of engagement possible.
Why It Matters
This launch is a big moment for sports and Web3. It shows that one of the world’s largest sports organizations is not just experimenting with blockchain, but fully committing to it as a long-term platform.
For the Avalanche community, it validates the network’s customizability and readiness to support real-world use cases on a global scale. For fans, it’s a chance to be part of something that blends the digital and physical sides of the game.
The FIFA Blockchain is a shift in infrastructure that unlocks new possibilities for fan engagement and ownership. Whether you’re here for the collectibles, the ticket access, or the tech itself, the FIFA Blockchain opens the door to a different kind of football experience.
And it’s only just getting started.
