Core Wallet: The Ultimate Gateway to Avalanche
From seedless sign-on to native Bitcoin bridging, here is everything you need to know about navigating Avalanche using the Core wallet.
Core wallet is the official, self-custody wallet for the Avalanche network, built by Ava Labs and available at core.app. It started as a replacement for the original Avalanche Wallet and has since expanded into something considerably broader: a single interface for managing assets, staking, bridging, swapping, and discovering dApps across the Avalanche ecosystem.
This piece covers every feature Core ships today, what each one does, and why it matters for Avalanche users
One Wallet, Every Surface
Core runs on every device you already use. The Chrome browser extension sits in your toolbar and connects to any web-based dApp with one click. The web app at core.app gives you the full experience on any desktop browser without installing anything. On mobile, Core is available as a native app on both iOS and Android, built specifically for each platform rather than a generic mobile port.
Everything syncs across all four of those surfaces, the Chrome extension, the web app, iOS, and Android. Your accounts, your portfolio, and your settings stay consistent regardless of which one you are using. Switch from your phone to your laptop mid-session and Core picks up exactly where you left off.
Seedless Sign-On: Onboarding Without the 24-word Barrier
This is one of the most significant upgrades Core has shipped, and it deserves its own section.
Traditionally, setting up a self-custody wallet meant writing down a 24-word seed phrase and storing it somewhere safe. For people new to Web3, that step alone is enough to make them close the tab. Core changed this. You can now create and access your Core wallet using a Google or Apple account, the same accounts you already use every day. No seed phrase to write down, no recovery words to lose.
Your keys are still yours, and it helps to understand why. When you sign in with Google or Apple, Core uses that authentication to derive and encrypt your private key material on your device. The key itself never leaves your device and Ava Labs never has access to it. What Google or Apple provide is an identity layer, a way to verify it is you, not custody of your assets. Ownership stays entirely with you. From your side it feels like logging into any other app, and from a security standpoint the protections are genuine. For anyone who has tried to onboard a friend or family member into Web3 and watched them abandon the process at the seed phrase step, this approach removes that barrier without trading away the self-custody that makes a wallet worth using.
Portfolio: Your Full Avalanche Picture in One View
Core’s portfolio dashboard pulls everything together. Every asset you hold, across every address you manage, displayed in one real-time view. You get current value, historical performance, and a breakdown of how your holdings are distributed across chains and wallets.
Core covers Avalanche natively across all three chains (X-Chain, P-Chain, and C-Chain), alongside Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and any EVM-compatible network. If you are tracking multiple addresses or managing different wallets for different purposes, Core lets you do that from one interface without switching between tools.
Swap: Trade Tokens Without Leaving the Wallet
Token swaps happen directly inside Core. You pick the asset you have, pick the asset you want, and Core finds the best available rate and executes the swap. There is no navigating to a separate DEX, no reconnecting your wallet to a different site, no extra steps. It is all in one place.
Native Bitcoin Bridge: BTC on Avalanche, Directly from Core
Most wallets that support Avalanche stop at the Avalanche ecosystem. Core goes further. You can bridge native Bitcoin onto Avalanche directly from inside the wallet, producing BTC.b, the wrapped Bitcoin token that lives and moves on the Avalanche network. Before this feature existed, moving Bitcoin into Avalanche DeFi required a separate bridge tool and often a different wallet entirely. Core made it a single native operation. For anyone who holds Bitcoin and wants to put it to work in Avalanche DeFi, this is the most direct path available without going through a centralized exchange.
Staking: Earn on Your AVAX from Inside the Wallet
Core Stake gives you full staking access without leaving Core. You can delegate your AVAX to a validator, track your rewards as they accrue, and manage your stake position from the same interface you use for everything else. For users who want to help secure the Avalanche network and earn yield on their AVAX, the staking flow in Core is straightforward and accessible regardless of your technical background.
Cross-chain transfers between your X-Chain, P-Chain, and C-Chain addresses are also handled inside Core web, so moving AVAX to the right chain for staking does not require a separate tool.
NFTs: Your Collection Lives in Core
Your NFT holdings sit alongside your fungible assets inside the wallet. Core displays your full collection, handles the metadata and image rendering, and lets you send or manage NFTs across Avalanche and EVM-compatible chains without navigating to a separate marketplace or gallery. Everything you own is in one place.
Discover: 6,000+ dApps, One Tap Away
The Discover section inside Core surfaces over 6,000 dApps across the Avalanche ecosystem. DeFi protocols, NFT platforms, games, tools — they are all browsable and accessible directly from the wallet. For anyone new to Avalanche who is still finding their feet, this removes the friction of not knowing where to go. For people who have been in the ecosystem for a while, it is a useful way to find projects you have not come across yet.
Live Notifications: Stay on Top of What Matters
Core sends real-time push notifications directly to your wallet. Transaction confirmations, price movements on assets you hold, and onchain activity across your addresses all come through as they happen. No need to keep a separate price tracker open or manually check transaction status.
Ledger Support: Hardware Security, Full Core Experience
If you use a Ledger hardware wallet and want cold storage security for your assets, Core connects to it natively. You keep the full Core interface and all of its features while your keys stay on the hardware device. Nothing is sacrificed on the feature side.
Optimised for Avalanche Architecture
Every feature in Core is built around Avalanche’s architecture. Full three-chain coverage means the wallet works the way the network actually works. Seedless sign-on means the barrier to entering the Avalanche ecosystem just got significantly lower for new users. The Discover page means the whole ecosystem is one tap away the moment someone opens the wallet for the first time.
Core is the experience Ava Labs wants every Avalanche user to have: self-custody without complexity, full ecosystem access in one place, and a wallet that works as well on your phone as it does on your desktop.
